Foto Friday - Blue Pod Lupine

Foto Friday - Blue Pod Lupine
Hello everyone!
Today's shot is one that I captured in the Acton Arboretum of some Blue Pod Lupines. They were beautiful, and I captured them so they were separated from the blurred background, to bring the viewers eye right to them.
For the Technology Geeks, this was a four shot, focus stacked capture. Each shot was captured at 1/160s, F4.0, ISO200, with a 90mm Macro Lens (Sony 900mm). The shot was at F4.0 to guarantee that the background would be separated from the subject, keeping the viewers eye on the Lupine. I took 4 separate manually focussed shots, progressing the focus point forward through the flower. After initial cleanup in Lightroom. I opened the 4 shots as layers in Photoshop. I then selected all 4 layers, did an Edit -> Auto Align Layers, and then Edit -> Auto Blend Layers, and it was completed.
Hope you enjoy!

Foto Friday - Beacon Hill - Day to Night

Hello everyone.

Today's photo is one that I captured in Beacon Hill as a daytime shot (6:48 am), and the turned it into a "Day to Night" shot. I then processed it as a black and white to turn it into the look I was after.

For the Technology Geeks, as mentioned above, this is a "Day to Night" shot. I cleaned up the original in Lightroom, took the exposure down two stops (-2.0), and then added Radial Filters to the spots I wanted to re-light. Once that was completed, I then ran the color version through Silver Efex Pro2, to turn it into a Black and White version of the shot.

Hope you enjoy!

Foto Friday - Garden Cosmos

Hello everyone.

Today's photo is one that I captured in the Naples Botanical Garden. It is a macro shot of the flower (Garden Cosmos) with three "texture layers" added to give it the look I was after.

For the Technology Geeks, this shot was captured at 1/80s, F4, ISO 100, 90mm (Sony 90mm Macro Lens), on a tripod. The shot was then taken into Lightroom for some minor exposure cleanup, and then brought into Photoshop for completion. Three separate texture were added to help fill in the negative space (intentional when capturing) on the picture. The base texture blending mode was changed to "soft light", and the two frame textures blend mode was changed to "multiply". The final result is what you see here.

Hope you enjoy!

Foto Friday - Naples Botanical Gardens

Hello everyone.

Today's photo is one that I captured yesterday in the Naples Botanical Gardens Orchid section. Their collection of Orchids is breathe taking.

For the Technology Geeks, the picture was captured at 1/250s, F11, ISO 640, 90MM (90MM macro by Sony). The challenge here is dialing in a sharp focus and not shaking the camera when capturing the shot. The 90mm Sony lens is very sharp, and my camera will zoom in x6.0 when focussing to allow you precise focus. Once focussed, I used a wireless remote so as not to touch the camera to inject camera shake when pressing the shutter button. I also used a hand held off-camera flash (camera left) to light the subject.

Hope you enjoy!

Foto Friday - Fenway's Red Seat

Hello everyone.

Today's Photo is one of the famous Red Seat, Section 42, Row 37, Seat 21 in Fenway Park that is 506 feet from Home Plate. All of the long time Red Sox Fans will know instantly why this seat was changed to red, and I will leave it as an exercise to the other readers to lookup it up!

For the Technology Geeks, this was captured as a 3 shot HDR (High Dynamic Range), with the base shot captured at 1/160s, F8.0, ISO200, 70mm (70 - 200mm Sony Lens). Each of the shots were two stops apart. This was also captured handheld, since we weren't allowed to use a Tripod in Fenway.

Hope you enjoy.
